Claude Duet vs AI by Zapier vs n8n Agents: which should your team use?

Three new ways to put AI agents to work in October 2026: a personal agent you message, AI steps inside Zaps, and agents inside n8n. What each is good at, what it costs to set up, and how to choose.

October brought three very different ways to put an AI agent to work. They’re often lumped together, but they solve different problems. (Spin-off of our trending AI agents roundup; latest picks on the trending hub.)

The short answer

  • Claude Duet is a personal agent: one per person, you message it, it handles your inbox, calendar and follow-ups. (Anthropic, research preview.)
  • AI by Zapier puts an AI step inside any Zap, with per-tool approvals and model tiers. Best for teams already on Zapier. (Zapier)
  • n8n Agents is a standalone team agent that uses your existing n8n workflows as tools, runs on a schedule or chats in Slack, and can be self-hosted. (n8n)

How to choose

  1. Is it one person’s admin or a shared process? Personal: Claude Duet or similar. Shared (lead routing, support triage, reporting): Zapier or n8n.
  2. Which tool do you already run? Stay there. Moving platforms costs more than the difference in features.
  3. Do you have data rules? If data must stay on your servers, n8n self-hosted.
  4. Who approves risky steps? Zapier makes this easiest out of the box.

Whatever you pick, don’t paste passwords into an agent. Use its own account or a tool like 1Password for Agents. Our safety checklist covers the rest.

Quick answers

Questions

Is Claude Duet available to everyone?

Not yet. As of October 24, 2026 it is a research preview with a waitlist, so plan around it rather than on it.

Can I use more than one?

Yes, and many teams will. A personal agent like Claude Duet helps each person; Zapier or n8n runs shared team processes with approvals and logs.

Which is cheapest?

It depends on volume. Zapier is quickest to start; n8n is often cheaper at high volume, especially self-hosted. A personal agent is priced per person.
